When people reach out for therapy, one of the questions they often carry—sometimes consciously and sometimes not - is:

"What will therapy with you actually be like?"

Every therapist works differently. While

the foundation of therapy may be similar, the experience can feel quite different depending on who you are sitting across from. So before we begin working together, here are a few things you should know about therapy with me.

1. I believe healing begins with feeling safe

My first priority is not to fix you, challenge you, or give you solutions. My first priority is to create a space where you can show up as you are.

Whether you arrive feeling overwhelmed, angry, confused, numb, anxious, ashamed, or simply unsure of where to begin, you do not need to have the "right words." Therapy with me is a space where all parts of your experience are welcome.

2. I also pay attention to what isn't being said

Sometimes the most important parts of a person's story are not in their words.

A pause before answering. A smile that doesn't quite reach the eyes. A change in posture. A deep sigh. I tend to notice these subtle moments. Not to analyse or judge you, but to help us become curious about what your mind and body may be trying to communicate.

3. Therapy is more than talking

Talking can be incredibly helpful, but healing often happens when we begin to notice our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and patterns with greater awareness.

Depending on your needs, our work may include mindfulness, body awareness, exploring different parts of yourself, understanding past experiences, processing difficult memories, or developing practical coping strategies.

4. I won't rush your process

We live in a world that loves quick fixes. Therapy rarely works that way. Some insights arrive suddenly, while others take time to unfold. I believe meaningful change happens when we move at a pace that feels both supportive and sustainable.

5. You don't have to be in crisis to come to therapy

Many people seek therapy because they are struggling. Others come because they feel stuck, disconnected, lonely, overwhelmed, lost in relationships, uncertain about their future, or simply curious about understanding themselves better.

You don't need to wait until things become unbearable before asking for support.

6. I will be honest, compassionate, and human

I care deeply about the people I work with. That doesn't mean I will always tell you what you want to hear. Sometimes therapy involves gently noticing patterns, beliefs, or choices that may no longer be serving you.

My intention is never to judge or criticize, but to help you see yourself more clearly and compassionately.

7. Therapy is a collaborative process

I bring training, knowledge, and experience. You bring your lived experience.

Neither is more important than the other. The most meaningful therapeutic work happens when we work together, exploring what feels true, helpful, and relevant for you.

8. My goal is not for you to depend on me

My goal is not to become someone you need forever. My goal is to help you develop greater awareness, self-trust, resilience, and freedom so that you can navigate life with more confidence and compassion, both within and outside the therapy room.

A final thought

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel vulnerable.

If you are considering therapy and would like to explore whether we are a good fit, you are welcome to reach out. Therapy is not about having everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes it starts with a conversation.
